At Direct Homecare, we believe that the heart of exceptional care lies in the people who deliver it. This month, we’re shining a spotlight on Greg our Partnership Development Manager, whose passion, empathy and commitment make him an invaluable part of our team.
How I Found My Way Into the Sector
My career in care began almost by chance. I met a social worker who spoke so passionately about the people they supported that I couldn’t help but want to learn more. I was given the chance to meet some of those individuals, and before long, I found myself stepping into a role where I could help provide care for them.
In the early days, I would visit families, children and patients with a clinical colleague. Those visits were powerful. Seeing people’s resilience — and the unwavering dedication of their families — made me want to use whatever skills I had to contribute in a meaningful way. That experience shaped the foundation of my career and still influences the empathy and curiosity I bring to my work today.
What My Day Typically Looks Like
One thing I love is that no two days are the same.
Most of my work involves engaging with professionals — commissioners, referrers, ICBs, local authorities — who are looking for providers capable of meeting complex, individual needs.
My role is to understand what each package or referral truly requires and to position us as a solution-focused provider. I spend a lot of time identifying challenges, exploring situations and helping create the solutions needed to deliver safe, person-centred care. I’m always looking for opportunities to build relationships, improve outcomes and support more people in a sustainable way.
The Challenges I Face — and How I Tackle Them
One of the biggest challenges is simply being heard.
Direct Healthcare 24 has delivered high-quality services for almost seven years, but for a long time we didn’t shout about our successes. That means that in some regions, people just haven’t come across us yet.
When I speak to commissioners or local authorities who aren’t familiar with us, I lean on transparency, honesty and evidence of the outcomes we’ve achieved. Most people are open and appreciative once they can see the quality for themselves.
Of course, the broader sector is constantly shifting — NHS structures change, expectations evolve, pressures grow. But like everyone here, I stay focused on what matters most: remaining person-centred and consistently delivering high-quality care.
Maintaining Work–Life Balance
I’m fortunate in that my role allows me to keep my evenings and weekends mostly uninterrupted — something not all of my colleagues get to enjoy.
There are moments and stories that stay with you, both challenging and positive, but I try to keep time away from work truly separate. That helps me stay grounded and able to give my best each day.
What I Love Most About This Industry
Without question: the people.
I’ve had the privilege of working with incredibly skilled colleagues, dedicated families and some truly remarkable individuals receiving care.
The most rewarding part is seeing a well-planned package come together — watching independence grow, seeing families feel supported, and knowing that everyone involved played a part in improving someone’s life. That sense of shared purpose is what keeps me passionate about what I do.
